The Nakheel Harbour and Tower, located in Dubai, was to be the unofficial ‘capital’ of the region. Comprising of hotels, hospitality and entertainment venues, retail tenancies, public spaces, a convention and exhibition centre and residential apartments, penthouses and townhouses, the development was planned to sprawl over 150 hectares of Dubai’s waterfront.

The highlight of the precinct, the 1km+ high, 200-storey Nakheel Tower, was designed as four separate structures, joined at every 25th level by sky bridges. The sky bridges would provide residents with ‘community villages’, offering retail and hospitality facilities and public spaces. The four individual cores were designed to provide greater structural integrity and stability, as the gaps between each core would permit wind to travel through the structure, reducing building resistance and subsequently allowing the overall tower to be taller.

Due to the global financial crisis of 2008 / 2009, the Nakheel Harbour and Tower project remains unrealised.
