230 Albert Rd

South Melbourne

Year Completed // 2004
Client // Probuild
Architect // SJB Architecture
Project Value // AU$25M
Location // 230 Albert Road, South Melbourne VIC

Originally constructed in the 1980’s, 230 Albert Road underwent an extensive transformation in preparation for new tenants, Probuild. The street-facing façade was removed from the structure and replaced with an expanse of glass, tilting out at a 12° angle. The extension of an existing mezzanine floor and the addition of a timber rooftop terrace has provided a third level; operable walls and large doors within the kitchen / lunchroom, anteroom, boardroom and terrace area can be opened to create a multipurpose open plan space capable of accommodating 100 people. In order to allow maximum daylight penetration into the centre of the redesigned office, an existing light well was converted into an internal garden, which is visible from all levels.
